Duna–Komárom: Robotic Inspection of Underwater Infrastructure

In 2025, UNEXMIN GeoRobotics Ltd. carried out an on-site robotic inspection at the barge loading facility of MOL’s Komárom site, focusing on the assessment and documentation of underwater concrete support pillars. Using underwater robotic equipment, the survey captured high-resolution images and video footage, providing a detailed visual record of the current condition of the structural elements.

The deployment of robotic systems enabled the inspection of hard-to-access and high-risk areas, significantly reducing the need for diver involvement and improving operational safety. Data collection was challenged by fluctuating water levels and strong currents of the Danube, yet the survey was successfully completed.

The recorded datasets will support future condition monitoring, comparative analyses and maintenance planning. This field operation demonstrates how robotic inspection technologies can effectively complement traditional industrial inspection methods, enhancing both safety and efficiency in complex aquatic environments.
